Sandy Michalik has been making baskets since the mid 1980s. Her first classes were taken at the local community college. She has attended basket weaving conferences in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, North Carolina and Missouri. Sandy has participated in many art fairs in Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin, and has had shows at Rountree Gallery, Hello Galena, The Galena Artists’ Guild Gallery, and Outside the Lines Art Gallery.

Her favorite baskets are Nantucket-style baskets made on a mold, and black ash Shaker-style baskets. She enjoys making baskets in the pioneer styles as well as contemporary baskets. Sandy’s philosophy is “form follows function.” A basket is intended to be used.
