Melba Granlund is a Scandinavian textile artist and instructor with a passion and reverence for older, traditional techniques. She teaches many forms of textile handcrafts, having received instruction in the U.S. as well as in Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark. In her classes, students learn not only the techniques, but also the historical and cultural context in which they were developed. Melba strives to instill an appreciation of Scandinavian handcraft traditions in her students so these skills and techniques are not lost or forgotten. She regularly teaches at the Weavers Guild of Minnesota, the American Swedish Institute, Vesterheim Norwegian American Museum, and North House Folk School. She is a Weavers Guild of MN Board member and serves as chair of the Volunteer and Outreach Committee.
